Milwaukee Road  Skytop

Milwaukee Road decided to make a lounge car they called the Skytop.
Jerry decided to build a model of one of these interesting rail cars

The Milwaukee Road changed it's colors to Union Pacific's streamliner colors.
The UP used them some on their trains
The original color of the Skytop
Here is one of the views of a Skytop lounge car. Jerry really liked them and decided to try a build. Eventually he found someone to make a 3-D print of the windows from his drawings.
The 3-d print turned out well. Jerry works in 1/32nd scale and it was used for the rest of the project.
Jerry worked up this drawing for a print that would fit the Great Trains cars( no longer made) that he used to splice together to make it longer to match his MTH passenger cars. Just the area in red was needed. It was quite a challenge for the company to get it right.  Once painted it took a long time to cut out the 'glass' windows. They are flat, not curved.
The finished 3-D print came out very good. Just some minor sanding was needed.
 Two Coaches:
Jerry was able to splice coaches to do two cars, it didn't cost much more to get a second print,
once all the plans were done-which was quite a job. It lined up well, but the roof did not quite
match the curve of the Great Trains roof, but he decided to live with it.
He had two Great Trains cars(no longer made) that are 1/32nd but too short, so he
spliced two together and cut down the rear to match the print.
The glass was cut from thin plastic. Lots of trial and error involved. When gluing clear plastic you have to be careful on glue choices. Jerry ended up using MEK which dissolves plastic well,
but does not fog the clear. He used a special holder with a fine needle to put it on.
Interior has 'carpet' from felt and old Great Trains seats, figures were added.
You can see the figures seated in the back
